The Railway Institute Kelejnictwa is a leading rail transport research organization with over 70 years of experience in research, testing, certification, and innovation. It operates modern research facilities, including accredited laboratories and the Experimental Track Centre in Żmigród.
The Institute conducts research and development, railway product certification, and compliance assessments in accordance with European and Polish regulations. As a European Commission Notified Body (NB 1467) and an accredited certification and testing organization, it supports the safety, interoperability, and modernization of railway infrastructure, rolling stock, and transport systems.
Working closely with international railway organizations and research partners, the Institute contributes to the advancement of both conventional and high-speed rail technologies, providing independent expertise that supports the development of sustainable and innovative railway transport.
Instytut Kolejnictwa (Railway Research Institute) spearheads European rail innovation. Recent activities highlight their central role in the EU-Rail Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) Guided Tour, participation in the European Level Crossing Forum, and strategic research on Life Cycle Cost (LCC) methodologies and rolling stock procurement.
