IDMEC (Instituto Superior Técnico – Universidade de Lisboa) is a private, non-profit association dedicated to science, technology, and advanced training at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal.
Its activities are guided by five strategic objectives: promoting research and development (R&D), fostering technology transfer, developing advanced education and training programmes, strengthening national and international scientific cooperation, and supporting innovation in engineering and applied sciences.
The institute carries out research across a broad range of mechanical engineering disciplines, with activities organised into five research centres: Mechanical Design, Intelligent Systems, Manufacturing and Industrial Management, Energy and Fluid Mechanics, and Aerospace Science and Technology.
These research activities are supported by well-equipped laboratories that contribute to national and international R&D projects in mechanical engineering.
Through its research, education, and collaboration with industry, IDMEC promotes scientific excellence, knowledge dissemination, and the development of innovative engineering solutions.

The activity of IDMEC is oriented towards five key strategic objectives:
1.to promote R&D actions;
2.to promote technology transfer;
3.to develop advanced training programmes;
4.to evaluate and audit new entrepreneurial processes;
5.to develop integrated management programmes in energetic, transports, logistic and socio-technical areas.
The activity of IDMEC is organized in five Centres: Mechanical Design; Intelligent Systems; Manufacturing and Industrial Management; Energy and Fluid Mechanics; Aerospace Science and Technology, supported by well-equipped laboratories that play a significant role in national and international R&D in different areas of mechanical engineering.
