EURNEX and ERCI position paper
The EURNEX and ERCI position paper for FP10 calls for stronger collaboration among universities, research centers, SMEs, and industry within the European rail sector. Together with Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU), we advocate for increased academic and SME participation to drive innovation, align with EU sustainability goals, and build a skilled workforce. We also emphasize the need for increased investment in rail research to balance funding with other transport modes, ensuring rail’s pivotal role in a sustainable, future-ready European transport system.

This document has been produced by the Working Group 7 of the Rail Research and Innovation Agenda (RRIA) of ERRAC, it deals with railway research needs and the importance of optimizing rail systems for sustainable transportation and growth. It covers various aspects of railway infrastructure, electrification, control and signaling systems, rolling stock, freight and passenger services, and the externalities associated with railways.  The document introduces the technological innovations and the needs for research for each railway subsystem and concludes that a key approach is to promote projects that address integrated systems thinking, understanding trade-offs and synergies among railways’ components.

STUDENT COMPETITION ERRAC PAG, EURNEX, EU-RAIL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS :
Target candidates:Â former master students and PhD students in the field of railway studies (who graduated their studies in 2022 or 2023).
The students are encouraged to send an abstract of their thesis or work (max 2 pages – see the template).
Eligibility condition: the Master or PhD thesis defence took place in academic year 2021-2022 or 2022-2023
Scope:Â The main goal of this competition is to facilitate the access of young practitioners and scholars to railway industry and the specific environment and to advance the triple helix in the railway domain.
