EURNEX

On October 30, 2007 the European rail research was set up on a new quality. EURNEX, the EUropean rail Research Network of Excellence, as an association according to the German law (e. V. = „eingetragener Verein“) was founded at the TSB-FAV premises in Berlin. The first Chairman o the Council was Professor Manuel Pereira.

Guidelines for safeguarding good scientific practice in EURNEX e.V.

In a smooth transformation process the founding Assembly of Members unanimously elected Prof. Markus Hecht of TU Berlin as Chairman of the EURNEX Council. After two terms in office the council chairmanship of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Hecht ended and in 2019 Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris was elected the new chairman. Marion Berbineau from the University Gustave Eiffel is the Vice-Chairperson. In April 2016 Dr.-Ing. Armando carrillo Zanuy was elected as the Secretary General of the association.

The association EURNEX has awarded Prof. W.H. Steinicke with the title „Lifetime Honorific Secretary General of EURNEX“ in recognition of his founding and achievements for the association.

The EURNEX Network of Excellence comprises of 33 scientific institutes in the area of transport with particular expertise in rail research all over Europe and China. As direct docking points to the research customers, the international associations UIC, UNIFE and UITP were also members of the EURNEX EU project and nowadays are integrated in the Advisory Board of the association.

 

Started in January 2004 with support from the European Commission, EURNEX pursues the main targets:

 

With EURNEX, the integration of the excellent European rail researchers has been achieved and EURNEX becomes more and more visible in the top rail research on international level. This includes as well the launch and the further development of EURNEX Scientific Poles of Excellence. With the Poles – thoroughly defined by matching of rail sector driven top-down and scientists based bottom-up process – the involved and committed EURNEX scientists profit.
